Humans and our immediate pre-human ancestors have lived on earth for millions of years. In all those years, we lived, had children, ate food, and succeeded at surviving. For countless centuries, we harvested and ate only those things provided by the environment. Contrast that with today when you can go into any grocery store and buy “food” that has very little relationship to anything found in nature. When was the last time you saw a cheese puff tree or a field of frosted cereal?

We have forgotten what we, as humans, are supposed to eat. We know that cows eat grass. We know that tigers eat meat. Like them, we’ve been here for millions of years, so what did we evolve to thrive on? We are omnivores, which means we can get energy and nutrients from both plants and animals. What are the foods that we can find in today’s modern food environment that will help us thrive? It’s certainly not everything we can find in a grocery store so we have to make decisions. How? What are the guidelines that can help us navigate this food maze and allow us to choose foods that will mesh with our evolutionary history? We must eat things that our genetic makeup will understand—food that our bodies know how to process and that will nourish us, not something that will damage us over the long term.

This blog will explore these topics and more.

Interesting title, but what does it mean?
